These are areas that are open to all residents to share. Please keep this in mind and ensure the space is respected and kept secure where appropriate.
Each floor has two bathrooms, one on each end. At the commencement of each year the SR for that floor will decide whether these bathrooms will be single or unisex facilities. If any resident is uncomfortable with the decided arrangement, they can confidentially discuss this with the SR for that floor.
Each bathroom contains 3x showers and 3x toilets that are cleaned daily by B&G’s staff of cleaners. We do ask that all residents respect these facilities, the cleaning staff and their neighbours by ensuring basic hygiene and cleanliness is considered at all times.
There are two computer labs at B&G both located in central block; one upstairs and one downstairs. These computers are university owned and operated so these can be used with your ANU printing credit and log in the same as computers in the campus libraries.
B&G’s kitchen is often referred to as the ‘heart’ of this self-catered hall. Each resident is assigned both a lockable fridge and cupboard space where you can store your belonging for the duration of your stay. You can purchase sets of two padlocks with the same key from the B&G office or any hardware store.
The kitchen is separated into 10 bay areas each containing a kettle, toaster, microwave, 5x hot plates and 2x ovens. There are also a number of shared fridges throughout the kitchen, these are not lockable so residents need to ensure all belonging are clearly labeled.
With dining tables and chairs spread all down the centre of the kitchen and a breakfast bar area located just outside of the kitchen, residents are encourage to utilise these facilities as much as possible. A number of our residents join cooking groups or hold ‘pot luck’ dinners on a regular basis.
The B&G laundry contains a number of both washing machines and tumble dryers. The washing machines are front loaders so please ensure appropriate detergents and powders are used. Basic washing etiquette is expected so please ensure you return to remove your items when the wash cycle is complete and consider whether what your washingshould be seperated from other items, ie bra’s should be washed in a bra bag to avoid underwires becoming tangled in the machine.
Each floor also has a small laundry room which contains an iron and ironing board. If you cant find this room, ask your SR for assistance.
